Greetings, God’s People! As is so often the case, the Moravian Daily Texts for this day seem remarkably fitting for our lives at this exact moment in time even though they were selected for publication several years ago. In case you haven’t read them yet…

The Lord said, “I will grant peace in the land, and you shall lie down, and no one shall make you afraid.” Leviticus 26:6

And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:7

Prayer for the Day : Prince of peace, fill our hearts and souls with your heavenly peace. May it lead to comfort, healing, and reconciliation as your peace permeates our lives, our relationships, and our communities. Amen.

Just because we are physically distant from one another doesn’t mean we should be out of touch. Here are some things you might be wondering about…

WORSHIP

  • Although we will not be gathering in person tomorrow, March 22, I invite you to pray from wherever you are at the time we typically would have come together–10:00 a.m. In your heart or aloud, in word or in song, lift your praises and your thanksgivings, your concerns and your confessions, your fears and your hopes and your dreams to God. I will anchor our collective prayers from the College Hill Moravian Church sanctuary where I will be naming names as I pray through the congregation’s directory. I will be praying for YOU.
  • There are lots of opportunities to worship with other congregations who will be streaming their modified services. The staff of the Northern and Southern Provinces of the Moravian Church have been working hard to share details and links. They have also been working with the creative folks at Moravians Without Walls to produce a weekly service to draw in folks. Bishop Sam Gray will be this week’s primary worship leader. Here is a whole menu of choices: https://www.moravian.org/2020/03/online-worship-opportunities/

CONGREGATIONAL CARE

  • Please be sure to keep me in the loop about what’s going on with you. I may be reached by cell phone at 484-894-9077 and by email at moravianpastorchris@gmail.com. You may also continue to leave messages through the church office phone and email which are being checked daily.
  • Your Elders have been faithfully reaching out to all church members, and you may also initiate contact and reach out to your assigned Elder Shepherd. (If you’re unsure who your Elder Shepherd is, inquire through the church office and we’ll get back to you about that.)

BEING SUPPORTIVE

  • Please know that your church staff and volunteer leaders have been faithfully scrambling to figure out how to “BE CHURCH” at the same time we are all figuring out how to adjust to the surreal situation the global pandemic has created. As these folks pray for you, please pray for them!
  • Stay connected. Reach out with calls and texts and old-fashioned, hand-written notes to one another. If you are interested in volunteering to deliver groceries, medications, Freezer Ministry food or other such supplies to folks who absolutely cannot and should not be leaving their homes, please contact the office.
  • Remember to keep up (or step up) your financial covenant to support the church’s ministry.

Faithfully Yours,
Pastor Chris

A random memory just popped up in my mind’s rotation: I’m 10-years-old or so, and I’m on an adventure with my Girl Scout troop. We are with throngs of people in the Milwaukee Arena for the Holiday Folk Fair International. We’re passing through a makeshift marketplace on our way to a stage where we’re going […]

It so happens that I was gifted a vintage, iridescent dragonfly broach recently by an old friend—a collector of fine art and jewelry. I hadn’t done a thing to deserve such an extravagant surprise, although my friend insists that it was merely repayment for my kindness. I told my friend there’s not a price for […]

As the first heat wave of summer spreads over Bethlehem like a smothering Woolrich blanket, there’s an eagerness in knowing that the city’s public swimming pools will soon open for the season. This includes the newly renovated Memorial Pool on Illick’s Mill Road. When it debuts next week, Memorial Pool will no longer be just […]

Image by Kevin Graham from Pixabay I can’t tell you how many Memorial Day parades I’ve been to, but it’s a lot. I remember being a little kid, sitting on the curb, watching police cars roll down the middle of the street, lights strobing, as a seemingly-ancient guard of World War I veterans shuffle-marched their […]

As if there weren’t already enough choices to make from among the 42,200 items shelved, on average, at a supermarket, the newest Weis Market in my neighborhood added a feature I’ve never before seen in such a setting: a staffed candy counter. It’s tucked away in the bakery department between a glass case filled with […]

Did you give a whoop-whoop and a high-five as you unlooped your mask from your ears the other day, knowing it had been proclaimed safe by the CDC for vaccinated people to do so? Did your mood lighten considerably with the realization that many pandemic practices were being repealed? Did you feel wild and strangely […]

It was one of those kitschy shops you find in all beach towns—the kind stocked with souvenir t-shirts and boogie boards, flipflops and sunscreen. In need of a hat to shade my face from ceaseless vacation sunshine, my husband Darrell and I headed toward the place on our morning walk. We hadn’t yet had breakfast, […]
